- Reviewed in the United States on May 22, 2025Style: Wired ControllerVerified PurchaseThis controller is a must-have for gamers on PC. It offers true plug-and-play simplicity, recognized instantly by Windows without any hassle. Its widespread compatibility with PC games means seamless controls and intuitive button prompts. It's very comfortable and precise, in my opinion it delivers a superior gaming experience for some titles and genres, like racing games and third person adventure games.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 4, 2025Style: Wireless ControllerVerified PurchaseThe joysticks on both the controllers I bought were worn down a bit, but they are authentic Microsoft controllers and in good condition.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 31, 2013Style: Wired ControllerVerified PurchaseI will begin this by stating that this is the official Xbox 360 wired remote, the same one that may come packaged with your Xbox 360, unless it comes with a wireless one. The only difference between this regular Xbox 360 controller, and this Xbox 360 Controller for Windows is one thing, the windows version comes packaged with a driver disk. Now this disk is unnecessary if your windows machine has access to the internet because windows will most likely recognize the device and install it for you. If not I recommend going to Microsoft's website and download the latest drivers, instead of using the disk.
I will not go into to much detail about the controller itself because most of use have been there done that. If you haven't used a 360 remote I will say though I prefer them over the PS3 style remote because it has a better grip(IMO) and the rear trigger buttons are a lot easier to use for pressure sensitive inputs because of the upward curve, compared to the downward curve. An example of where this comes in handy would be for light gas or brake pressure in a racing game. The quality is of course of high standards, this is not a cheaply built remote and you can expect this to last.
IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING THIS REMOTE AND HAVE SOME MORE MONEY TO SPARE, I RECOMMEND FIRST CHECKING OUT Xbox 360 Officially licensed F.P.S. Pro Wired GamePad OR THE Razer Sabertooth Elite Gaming Controller for Xbox 360
**************** OPERATING SYSTEMS COMPATIBILITY TESTING ***************
XBOX 360--
It will work like any other 360 remote, so no worries.
PS3--
Doesn't function by itself, you must purchase an adapter like HDE® Xbox 360 To Playstation PS3 Controller Adapter but there are others on amazon you can purchase.
Windows--
I have only tested this on windows 7, although it should work on xp,vista,7, and 8. On 7 it automatically installed my drivers so there was no need for the packaged driver disk. You will only need it, if you plan on playing with a pc which has no internet. If I get requests in my comments, I have no problem checking its compatibility in xp,vista, and 8.
I tested this on Steam and played a game which was fully controller compatible, borderlands 2. When I launched Steam Big Picture Mode, I was able to navigate through the menu's with the remote, and still use the mouse anytime i wanted to switch. Although I did have a small problem that my inputs weren't registering. Not sure what happened, but once I removed and reinserted the controller usb, everything worked fine. In game all the buttons worked perfectly and no mapping was needed.
Linux(Ubuntu)--
Now that Steam has come to linux, it allowed me to actually take gaming on Linux serious LOL (sorry to people who actually enjoy the other games on linux). When I launched Steam, I clicked Big Picture mode and was surprised to see that it actually now worked. The controller worked without any type of software or driver installation. Big picture mode responded very well to all my inputs and was actually faster than the windows version. The only problem I had was that the buttons weren't mapped correctly, I didn't goto options and see if I could remap them, but there should be the settings to do so, if not it will get fixed automatically.
The game I tested was Team Fortress 2. This game is only partially controller compatible. I was able to navigate the games menu, but some buttons and the right analog stick didn't work. I tried remapping the buttons and still couldn't get it to work. But I know that as time passes and more linux games are released, it will work as it should. For now the important thing is that this microsoft remote will work in linux.
Android--
I put this into my Asus Transformer Prime, which has a docking keyboard with USB, running Android 4.1. I plugged it in while on the home screen and was able to navigate through my icons, through the different screens, and even onto my apps menu. But although you have the ability to do this, its not optimal. It's much easier to use the touch screen because button mapping placement is odd and confusing.
The game I tested was Dead Trigger. Im not sure how much support they put into remotes but in the game menu the remote was worthless, and had to use the touchscreen. But once the game was loaded, I was able to play with the remote fully enabled. I remapped my buttons, and It was amazing. I hated using the onscreen buttons for gaming on my tablet, so I never played. But with a remote it completely changes gaming on an android device.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 11, 2012Style: Wireless ControllerVerified PurchaseThis package is an XBox 360 controller with a wireless USB adapter that transmits a signal so you can play wirelessly. In other words, while it comes with an XBox 360 controller, you can also use any other XBox 360 controller as well. Using the simple setup poster and included software CD, you install the software, connect the USB adapter, and you're ready to play.
The good news is, the adapter for this Wireless Controller will not only let you connect up to FOUR XBox 360 controllers at the same time, it will also let you connect other devices, such as XBox wireless headsets.
The bad news is, there is one fundamental flaw that seems to have been completely ignored by the people who developed the software to support the XBox 360 Wireless Controller for Windows:
You can't easily turn it off.
On an XBox, you press and hold the controller's center button. The software launches a menu and one option you can choose is "Turn off Controller." The documentation and the software's help files say nothing about turning off the controller. Digging through forums uncovers that you can either set the controller down for 20 minutes and wait for it to turn itself off, or most people disconnect the battery pack every time they want to turn it off (which will eventually loosen it). The center button does nothing if you're not in a game (and if you are, it doesn't give you a "turn off controller" option). You can't "eject" the controller in Windows, and if you disconnect the USB adapter or turn off your PC while the controller is still on, the controller will continue to look for a connection until the battery runs down.
There is one sure-fire way that works: you have to be playing a Games for Windows Live game, logged into your Games for Windows Live account, and when you're ready to quit, press and hold the center button for 4 seconds. You will get a menu that will ask, "Do you want to turn off the wireless controller?" Choose Yes, and you can continue exiting the game using the keyboard and mouse.
UPDATE: Amazon customer "Kitten" posts in the comments below that there is a system tray utility that will allow you to turn off the controller if you forget to do the steps above. I haven't tested it yet but when I do I will come back here and update my review accordingly--her link is in the comments.
That said, there is a reason I bought this controller, and that reason is that I really have come to enjoy the XBox 360 Controller. I've also had some very annoying compatibility failures over the years with PCs and "game pad" controllers. The XBox 360 controller--wired or wireless--has been the best. It's literally plug and play and thus far I haven't had any button problems, or had the sticks fall out of calibration like some other controllers do.
If you love PC gaming, but you need to use a console-style controller for some of your games, this is your best bet. You can go with a wired controller and save yourself the power-down headaches, but if you really want wireless in Windows, the XBox 360 Wireless Controller for Windows is the best. Maybe one day they'll finish the software--I strongly suggest they put a tray icon in with a menu to manually handle this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Genuine product. You can go for it.
The controller I got was genuine. I checked with an actual xbox controller and it was exactly the same. The price might seem a little higher but that's what you pay for a genuine product. You can go ahead and buy this. Feels comfortable and sturdy. I got the controller from a seller called "SAMEO" btw.

5.0 out of 5 stars It just works!
Style: Wireless ControllerVerified PurchaseIt just works! I've been seeking for a good PC gaming controller and this controller works right out of the box with recent release of Crystal Dynamic's Tomb Raider reboot game via Steam on my PC. Simply plug in the wireless dongle from the package at the back of your PC USB port and takes matter of seconds to recognize it and install the driver, then press the wireless dongle button to start searching/pair the wireless controller. While the wireless dongle is searching for the packaged wireless controller, simply press the silver X Guide Button on the controller to turn it on and press the small search/pair button next to the charge and play connector port at the top/back of the wireless controller and presto, its paired and you are ready to have some Tomb Raider gaming action in no time! Definitely worth the price of admission. Might get another Xbox 360 wireless controller for Windows later down the road as a back-up unit due to the scarcity of the official stand alone wireless dongle that is no longer in production by Microsoft, except available in this release only. Totally worth every penny spend! :)
To note: If you want to turn off the controller, simply pop out the battery pack at the back of the controller and then it will reset and shut off it self, as well don't forget to unplug the dongle when not in use to expand & give longevity of the wireless dongle usage.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reliable
Style: Wired ControllerVerified PurchaseI switched from XBox360 over to PC gaming a while back and took the controller with me. After many years of (ab)use, it was time to replace it. I checked out a few options, all of which gave me problems of one kind or another, and settled for going back to basics with one of these. It came with a driver disc, which is always appreciated, and everything works like it should. No problems, no hassle, and it's lets me get back to what's important - brain surgery from 200 feet.
