I’ve been using a combination of cheap gaming headsets (sub $50) and wired open-air headphones for years. And when my old Turtle Beach headset died (3 years is a pretty good life span for these things), I really wanted to upgrade. With the knowledge that I like being able to hear my own voice in chat, and I needed an upgraded mic; I did research and found this headset. The open-air design of this headset makes it very comfortable for long periods of time, and as I stated it’s nice being able to hear the world around me aside from the alternative of having ambient sound blocked out (an acquired taste, I will admit). I enjoy the functionality of being able to put the mic up to mute it, and to pull it back down by my mouth to get the mic working again. Not as quick as a button, but very intuitive once you get used to it. The mic itself is outstanding, and required some calibration so as to not have my voice be too loud in chat. And my friends were quick to tell me there was a clear and positive difference in mic quality. Other high points include the manual volume control wheel on the right side of the headset. It just feels nice to literally turn the volume up and down when listening to chat or music. It comes with a very long and sturdy two piece USB cord. But I highly suggest that you also buy a proprietary aux cable for this headset. (Here is what I bought, it’s an excellent purchase: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07RW9QNQV/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_y8xJDbDYBSMHH ) Plugging this headset directly into the PS4 (which you have to do without the aux cable) will require you to change some setting for it to work in chat while gaming. And while playing on the PS4 you don’t really need the special two piece aux to USB cable since the special surround sound is meant to be used only on the PC. And the aux connection is a simple plug in directly to your wireless controller. It’s just a cleaner setup, especially if you have to worry about any foot traffic around where you’re gaming. On the PC, the included USB cable gets to fulfill its purpose a bit more, with the ability to use the surround sound functionality. It’s mostly a cute gimmick in my opinion. But the sound quality remains excellent. I suppose the only other thing I’d mention is that this is a very balanced headset. What I mean by that is that it’s not too heavy on the light or heavy side. The music won’t sound flat, nor will it lean more towards bass heavy music or voice or orchestral quality. If you wish to make it lean one way or another, that’s done easily enough with the PC software that comes w/ this headset, or your own PC sound settings. Overall, it’s well worth the price. And I can’t see myself ever using any less than this in the future. For use in the home, these are used for everything. PC, PS4, even my iPad Pro. I invite everyone who is curious to join the world of open-air (open-back) headphones.

The media could not be loaded.
I've owned 5 pairs of Sennheisers, and about 25 other more expensive headsets and less expensive headsets. About a year ago, I purchased the HD 598's and really wasn't impressed, but always seemed to reach for them when watching a movie. Why? It's because I find the sound to be accurate to the movies without glorifying the sounds. Also, because they are extremely light and comfortable. I can say the same thing with these headsets.

Some may want a more expensive headset hooked up to their expensive motherboard or sound card. If you are that type of person, these aren't for you. I've been using the SteelSeries Siberia v2 Full-Size Gaming Headset with Built-In USB Sound Card for the past 3 years for computer gaming, and these are excellent and comfortable as well. (I bought them initially to match my Steelseries mouse) I just had to have the Sennheiser's though when I saw that they had a similar design to theHD598's.

The 7.1 surround is amazing once you download the software. There is the music mode and the gaming mode. The music mode is absolutely fantastic for listening to music on the internet. I mean, the BEST ever! The gaming mode is also amazing for gaming. I find it a little tedious to switch from mode to mode because if you switch modes, you have to go to your desktop, and if you forget to switch modes for a full screen game, you'll be in music mode.

Comfort is the same as the HD598's which says a lot. I like the velour, and they fit my head like a glove without any sound leakage.

      Pros
      USB, comfort, awesome surround sound.

      Cons
If you're a person that wants to hook up your headphones to the back of your computer, these aren't for you.

Update: I'm having problems with the software. At the beginning of games, I'm hearing static, and the game sounds intermittently work and go silent. I'm going to give an update if this continues to happen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Consigliate!

      Consiglio Sennheiser.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic quality
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 23, 2018
tl;dr: Best headphones I've ever invested in - sound quality is fantastic for its price and excellent for gaming and listening to music.

I bought these because another reviewer told me that these were very good and perfect for using when playing games, listening music and talking to people. If you're looking for medium headsets then these are the perfect ones for you, The earcups feel really nice and fit perfectly around my ear even though my ears are quite large they just slip on without hesitation; they give no fatigue when I am wearing them for long periods of time.

However, I have some cons to these headsets: the software is quite limited to 3 sections (EQ, Mic and sidetone) and with the presets I only use one which is music - this would be better if you could customise the EQ settings. Secondly, the microphone picks up a lot and sometimes when I am re-adjusting the microphone it would go over my mouth and my friends would stop me breathing down the mic as it picks it up so prominently and also the mic isn't detachable so it removes the aesthetic of the headphones when I want to take it out on walks or anywhere else.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastischer Gaming-Kopfhörer der Oberklasse
Reviewed in Germany on June 7, 2017
      Vorwort:

      - unterwegs: Bowers & Wilkins P7
      - TV: Yamaha YSP 2200 Soundbar

Folgende Kriterien sollte der Kopfhörer erfüllen:
      - Headset
      - guter Halt, kein verrutschen
      - bequemer Sitz, auch nach stundenlangen Sessions
      - spieletaugliche Soundkulisse
      - Raumklang mind. 5.1
      - USB Anschluss

Sehr gut gemacht!

Der Spieletest erfolgte in World of Warships und Battlefield 1.

      World of Warships

Was wummern muss, wummert, was knattern muss, knattert. Schleifgeräusch an Panzerketten, nachladende Gegner, zischende Kugeln von Snipern. Die Liste ist schier endlos! Und kein einziges Geräusch geht unter.
Eine akustische Ortung von Gegnern funktioniert einwandfrei! Der Kopfhörer löst präzise auf.

      Zusatz-Infos:

      Was kann man verbessern?
Nichts gravierendes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Qualidade de áudio em um design vencedor
Reviewed in Brazil on October 5, 2020

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent casque ouvert qui corrige les défauts du 363d
Reviewed in France on September 24, 2016

Or ici aucun problème...
