Great clicking sound and amazing build quality!
    4 out of 5 stars
Great clicking sound and amazing build quality!
I would honestly rate this a perfect 5 stars were it not for the keycaps and the not so bright RGBs. The keycaps are made from ABS and only the main characters are shine through, the special characters are just printed on which don't show up with RGB lights. One major downside to ABS keycaps is that they tend to get oily really quick. After a few hours of use, the keycaps began to get very shiny and slippery, which detracted from the all black color scheme and annoying when gaming. I ended up swapping the keycaps with PBT double shot keycaps (Monoprice + Razer) to get the ideal illumination and shine through. See pictures of difference. Being the owner of half a dozen keyboards, this one really hit a sweet spot. The media keys are really good and the volume dial is amazing. They don't feel as amazing as the ones in the Corsair K70/K95 ones, but they are decent. The software is also really good and lets you go pretty deep into the RGB light customization and effects. Comparing the Razer software to Corsair's CUE, Razer's software is miles better than Corsair CUE. CUE often crashes and resets macros mid games, sometimes completely freezing the keyboard or mouse (one of my main reasons to switching to Razer KB). I've yet to experience a single crash with Razer's software (use it for some of my Razer mice and capture card). The green switches are similar to blue switches with some notable differences... Using my Corsair K70, E-Element, Motospeed, and Redragon keyboards with blue switches as a reference, the green switches feel a bit crunchy. Its not necessarily a bad thing as it feels slightly different from Cherry Blues, but still clicky and satisfying. This feels more similar to Outemu Blues (found in E-Element, Motospeed, and Redragon), but less clicky (less loud). Cherry Blues sound more like a type writer, Razer greens sound like your finger tips are smashing lays potato chips, and Outemu Blues sound like you are smashing a stack of lays chips per click (much louder, louder than Cherry Blues). Now the brightness was another thing that didn't blow my mind away. I had heard that the 2017 and 2018 Blackwidow RGB keyboards had really bright RBGs. Using my pictures as reference (max brightness), they are not as bright as Corsair K70 or my other RGB keyboards. Not a bad thing either, personally. Since my desk is next to my bed, the slightly less bright RGBs make it easier to fall asleep, whereas others (Motospeed, Redragon, Ajazz) are sometimes blindingly bright at night. Also, if you are wondering whether you should get Greens or Orange switches, I would highly recommend Greens. Having have tried Oranges before (friend's KB), the Oranges feel like gimped Brown or Black MX switches.

UPDATE: Months after writing my initial review, the volume scroll wheel has become effectively useless. It will not reliably scroll up or down, and just bounces around whether you try to scroll either direction. Occasionally it even activates itself without being touched, though this only occurs when I am using the keyboard. I did a little research and there are youtube videos that reveal a manufacturing defect, where the fluid/grease that is used inside the wheel groups up (like water into beads) and then causes issues with the contacts that detect the direction of movement. This is supposedly fixable by removing the grease entirely, but that requires taking the keyboard apart to some extent, and I have no doubt this is basically a band-aid fix as the grease is likely meant to prevent excessive wear to the moving part. The rest of the keyboard is still working great, and I still have the same good things to say about it, but this was disappointing and I no longer have the convenience of using the wheel for volume control. Razor should improve on the design in the future to prevent further customer frustration.

I have been waiting until I put some time in with this keyboard to write a review. I bought it a month ago yesterday. I came from a cheap "mechanical feel" keyboard with membrane switches. It was fine for gaming, but I felt it was holding me back when it came to typing. I work on my PC from home every weekday as a top tier technician for proprietary software. I log and resolve issues in tickets, take a ton of notes, assist other technicians in a group chat, and write and adjust code. Short version, I do a ton of typing. On top of that, I am an avid gamer and usually spend at least a couple hours gaming on my PC each day.

When it was first delivered, the whole thing immediately screamed quality. The packaging is attractive and functional, made with high quality cardboard. The keyboard itself feels very solid and durable and the plastic frame has a very nice matte finish and feel that I could only describe as commercial or military grade. The cord is thick and braided and ends in 2 usb plugs and a 3.5mm plug for audio and usb passthrough, which has been very nice for cable management on my sit/stand desk. I can't speak much to the macro functionality as I do not use it, but the media controls are convenient and the volume wheel steps similar to a high quality mouse wheel. The magnetic wrist rest is the icing on the cake. The one downside is the ABS keys; Razer missed an opportunity here as they should have been PBT. However, keycaps can be replaced should they wear down, and they do a fantastic job showcasing the full spectrum RGB backlighting which is gorgeous btw. Since this is not Razer's flagship keyboard, I'll give them a pass, but no extra credit.

Then there are the stars of the show, the switches... Holy cow are they satisfying. The sound and physical feedback is sublime, and I am not exaggerating when I say that my typing speed has increased about 50% as I know EXACTLY when a keystroke has registered as my hands dance across the keys. I imagine my experience is akin to the feeling a musician gets when they pick up a high quality instrument for the first time after honing their skill on starter equipment. It is true of all tasks that having the right tool for the job can make all the difference.

Bottom line: If you want to spend a fortune, I am sure there are better keyboards out there. For the price, I challenge someone to show me a better option. Would highly recommend, no reason to keep researching if you find yourself in this price range.
    • Reviewed in the United States on September 12, 2021
This is the first "super high end" keyboard I've bought.
I laughed at the thought of spending more than $100 on a keyboard.
However, my old one was having issues and I needed a new one.
During my review searching, I kept seeing BlackWidow Elite mentioned. It showed up more than a few times.
I checked it out and was like "No! I'm not paying almost $200 for that!" then I kept reading. And it showed up a lot.
After doing tons of searching through Amazon, I ended up coming back to this one and doing more research. I was intrigued. I started looking for specific reviews about this keyboard. YouTube. Reddit. Amazon. And more...

This keyboard has a lot going for it.

It's surprising how many bells and whistles this comes with. Each individual key light can be controlled in some manner.
The app for it (call Synapse...kind of like in the movie Antitrust) has tons of presets. And there's an entire community of people who make color themes for this. I love it. Someone is always coming up with something new and interesting.
The app lets you set up macros and key binds for almost anything. And there's a bunch of other stuff I haven't even messed with.
Synapse could use some QOL improvements and some upgrades. The layout design could use some love and navigating the app takes some getting used to. It's not horrible but there is definitely room for improvement. For what it is right now, it's a good app. I don't hate it.

What I don't like is that the keyboard immediately prompts you to install Synapse as soon as you plug it in. I'm sure there are some people who want to use the keyboard as just a mechanical keyboard and they don't want to use the app. I'm not sure if this is an option for them, but it should be. A $200 keyboard should not force a software installation to be used.
As I have not tried using my keyboard without Synapse, I can't expound on this topic other than to say the popup might be construed as "invasive" to some users.

Another small thing I really like about the keyboard is the side USB plug. It's great for doing quick USB connecting and it's within arms reach at all times.
I have USB 3.0 hub that I'm going to try connecting to it at some point to give me some additional ports.
You also get a plug for audio in and audio out. I don't use these ports so they have no real effect on me and I can't comment on how the sound quality is. But I'm sure there are others who will love the quick audio port access. Especially if you have a tower that doesn't have easily accessible ports.

Let's talk about the additional buttons that come with this. The ones not part of the standard 104.
In the upper right corner, this keyboard comes with a spinner dial for controlling volume and a rather large mute button in the center of the dial. To the left of the dial are three media buttons. Rewind, play, and forward (in that order).
Now, I like having media buttons. But I LOVE these things because, as a scripter, I can reassign these to do a multitude of things.
Example: In my main script that I have running at all times, I wrote a piece of code that lets the dial control the main system volume normally but when the Windows key is held, the volume dial adjusts the sound of Winamp without me having to actually open Winamp (Winamp is a music player that has been around forever. I've used it for years and haven't found a better replacement for it.)

On a side note, if you're curious about rebinding keys, making advanced custom macros, and more, check out the language AutoHotkey. It's completely free, it's one of the most user-friendly programming languages I know of, and the community loves teaching newcomers how to create programs. They have a very active main forum, subreddit, and Discord.

      Back to the review.
Finally, I want to talk about the key switches. The Razer greens exceeded my expectations. I've been using this keyboard for long enough that I can comfortably say these keys are probably the best ones I've used.
Before this, I had Cherry MX Blues and I loved those. But these greens seem like they're just a smidge better. They're really responsive. The pressure requirement per keypress is great. And I love the "clack" they make.
There's something almost soothing and zen-like about listening to a keyboard talk as you create something.

I do all the major things keyboards are used for: Gaming, coding, and composition.
For gaming, it's all about response time and key pressure. The greens have been fantastic in both areas! I've set multiple new records on StepMania (think DDR for your fingers) using this keyboard. The switches seem to be so accurate that I'm hitting notes, rolls, and crossovers that I was having difficulties hitting before. I have a folder of favorite songs and I've gone up 1-2 grades on almost every song in there. Not only that, there are certain songs I had never finished that I've gotten past with this keyboard. I highly doubt that my skill level randomly jumped that much after getting this keyboard. Gotta give props where props are due.

For coding and composition, all I care about is not missing keystrokes. Give me what I type.
If I'm coding and I miss one letter/number, it can have a myriad of negative effects. It could be an easy error to find or it might be something so unnoticeable that it takes you forever to fix. Either way, I've never had an issue with keystrokes registering when I'm typing. And because the keyboard doesn't have a super high actuation rate, I don't get fatigued fingers after elongated sessions.

Finally, I have never experienced any ghosting issues (that's where your keys don't register when you hold too many at once). Apparently, this keyboard has a 10-key rollover with anti-ghosting. I play a ton of different games and not ONCE have I had an issue where multiple keys were being held and some weren't registering. I've also noticed that comments like "BULLS#@T!!! I did too hit that button!!" have become almost non-existent. I couldn't be happier about that.

TLDR: The BlackWidow Elite is a solid keyboard, it has great features, the Razer greens are some of the best switches I've ever used, the Synapse app is decent and has a lot of options, side ports are very convenient, the extra media buttons are always welcome, and it never ghosts or miss keystrokes.

      10/10 would buy again.

Thanks for reading this review. All of my reviews are 100% "Greg honest". I cannot be bought.
Amazon's review system is going downhill. Paid review groups ravage this site and the removal of comment responses has made things worse.
I strongly believe in uncompromised reviews where the goal is protecting the buyer and informing the masses.
Let's look out for each other!

5.0 out of 5 stars Es un excelente teclado

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended Gaming Keyboard
Reviewed in Canada on January 27, 2020
I've been using this for almost a month now and I LOVE IT! After much scrutiny, the deciding factor on this keyboard was the USB pass through and the great reviews on its gaming speed. Very well packaged and easy to setup. The number pad Enter key fell off during setup though (mechanical so it happens), but my husband was able to put it back on and it works great. Lights up perfect without being obnoxious. The media controls above the number keys are very handy. I also find the lighting perfect and love that it is adjustable, though I have mine cycle through colors. My only issue is that the alternate SHIFT+number keys do not light up, just the numbers themselves. So if you don't have them all memorized, you might have to turn on a light to check.

As for gaming, the response times are FAST. It has actually improved my gameplay! I had a Steel Series (World of Warcraft Special Edition) and it is not nearly as good. I immediately noticed the difference between the two, both in feel and in response.

The keyboard is very easy to use and setup. My only issue is having to install all the software for customization. However, if you are a Razer fan, you can integrate them (example, mouse setup links with keyboard setup). I had some trouble with the macro setup (such as changing the CAPS LOCK to not do CAPS so I can use it for push to talk).. but otherwise everything else is great.

For all the things this keyboard can do for you, it is worth the price. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR GAMERS

I am the absolutely Razer fans. I buy Blackwidow Elite because I love green Switch. I have my first Razer keyboard in 2015, it is also Blackwidow. After five years, the quality always good, but I just want to buy a new one. Then its bother Blackwidow Elite is only one option for me. If you don't mind make noise, if you enjoy typing the words or play game. Trust me, Blackwidow Elite is best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Keyboard!

This is one of the best gaming keyboards ever made by razer and is perfect for gaming and typing. You have a choice of 3 switches tactile and click, tactile and silent and linear and silent. This makes the keyboard perfect for anyone. If you are looking for a new keyboard this would be the right choice. Oh and the amazing plush wristrest is wonderful.
