One Of The Best Controllers For Nintendo Switch

One Of The Best Controllers For Nintendo Switch
This controller is awesome. I already own multiple Switch controllers, but I've yet to find something with an actually good d-pad. The Joy-cons just have separated directional buttons, and the D-Pads on all my PowerA controllers have just been ok at best. I decided to try out 8bitdo after using my friend's SN30 Pro controller. I decided to get the upcoming newer SN30 Pro+ model instead because of the extra features, and it is well worth the money. The controller pretty much feels like a PS4 controller when you're holding it, and the joysticks are also similar. It's very comfortable. The main body of the controller with the buttons and all of that is a very accurate replica of a SNES controller. I compared it to my original SNES controller, and the 8bitdo controller is spot on. The D-Pad feels amazing, it's the best one i've ever used. Start and Select feel just like the SNES, and so do the A B X Y buttons. My only complaint with those is that A and B are light pink, when they're supposed to be a dark purple, but that's relatively unimportant. The triggers are fantastic. L and R feel just like the SNES while ZL and ZR are full on analog triggers, similar to the PS4's but larger. The plastic they used to make this controller feels almost identical to the plastic used on SNES controllers. Another thing I really like is the rechargeable battery pack that comes with the controller. It lasts up to 20 hours and is rechargeable via the USB-C port on the controller. (It comes with a charging cable by the way.) If the rechargeable battery pack dies on you or stops working, you can simply remove it and use AA batteries instead, something I wish was a feature on PowerA controllers like their wireless Gamecube controller. As if this thing wasn't the perfect controller already, you can download free software from the 8bitdo website that allows you to customize the controller. You can do button mapping, stick and trigger sensitivity/dead zones, macros, vibration intensity, etc. The software also allows you to update the controller. The SN30 Pro+ works on a lot of different devices, but I mainly use it on my Nintendo Switch. When compared to my Joy-cons and PowerA wireless Gamecube controller, the 8bitdo controller has a little bit more input lag. It's almost imperceptible though, only a 20 millisecond or so difference. You only really notice it if you're comparing controllers. The rumble motors in this controller are awesome. The rumble on the 8bitdo SN30 Pro controller felt buzzy and phone-like, but since the SN30 Pro+ has handles, it's got full on rumble motors. It's not the HD rumble found in first party Nintendo controllers, but it's still great. There's no NFC on this controller, but it does have motion controls. I tested it on Splatoon 2, and it was alright. It definitely works, but I found using motion controls with this controller to be kinda uncomfortable. Maybe I'm just used to the Joy-con. I was also very impressed by the packaging for this controller. Very sturdy box, nice presentation, etc. Overall, this is one of the best controllers I've ever used. It keeps what was great about the SNES controller, makes it more ergonomic with the handles, adds modern controller features like sticks, analog triggers, rumble, wireless, motion controls, home and capture buttons, etc., and just feels great to use. This is the first third party controller I've seen that matches the quality of the official Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. It might even be better. It's a considerable amount cheaper, has a really good D-Pad, and has the option to use various types of batteries, which are all features that the official controller doesn't have. If you're looking for a well rounded Switch controller that will work great for both retro and modern games, this should be your first choice. 10/10, great work 8bitdo.

I recently heard of a site that lets you test your controllers, including analog stick accuracy. Quite simply, 8bitdo controllers analog sticks blow first party controllers out of the water when it comes to stick accuracy (which also factors into stick drift). The best result I've heard from first party is Playstations dualshock 4 and dualsense having around 4.5-6% error margin even when brand new. I tested all of my controllers. My used Dualsense was 14.7%, new Dualsense was 5.5%, Switch Pro was 6.5%, Xbox Series was 8.1%, DS4 was 7.7%

My xbox 8bitdo controller had 1.6% error margin!!! This specific controller, despite being used for a couple years has only a 0.8% error margin!!!!!!!!!!! That's nearly Hall Effect analog stick quality and accuracy!!! And typically, the more error margin, the more likely you will have stick drift. It's not 100% correlated but it seems to always be close. If a controller has above 15% error, you'll almost definitely have drift, depending on the game.

I tried out a few games that let you set the stick deadzone to 0% and it was mindblowing how much better FPS are to play when you can set it that low. Normally, if you set deadzone below 8% even on new controllers, you will have stick drift. My older Dualsense, needs to be set to 14% deadzone to avoid drifting!! 8bitdo controllers can be set to 0% and the difference in precision you gain from this is massive.

That means you can zero in even on the furthest targets relatively easily. When the deadzone is bigger, it's very easy to move the stick and your aim overshoots your target because the game isn't reacting to the smallest movements you make on the stick. Hence the term deadzone. I'm referring to the deadzone in the center of the stick in this case.

Using this controller and setting deadzone to 0% in any game that will let you (not enough games have a deadzone setting that will let you put it down to 0%) will give you an advantage. It's almost like the precision of a mouse and certainly better than what you can get from any other controller.

Aside from this revelation, I've always liked these controller. They have the best grips other than the dualsense IMO, great d pad and buttons. Plus the custom button mapping software and paddles is another reason these are great for platforms that don't support button mapping.

The one issue is the ergonomics aren't perfect. Like if you do the CLAW technique, it's a bit harder to do on these controllers. Otherwise they are better than first party controllers.

There is one issue. If you want a Switch pro controller, and you don't need paddles, the Gulikit KingKong2 Pro controller is the best choice easily, It not only has Amiibo, and motion control support, but it also can turn on your switch from standby. THE BIGGEST advantage of the KingKong2 is that it uses Hall Effect sticks, and triggers. Hall Effect sensors use magnets, not potentiometers. Meaning not only are they even more accurate (0.2-0.6% error margin), but theoretically, they will never experience stick drift. Also the kingkong2 has better and more durable buttons as well

The only downside is the ergonomics of the kIng Kong 2 is that it's basically an Xbox One controller with better sticks and buttons. Personally I hate offset analog sticks, but some people might like this more

It definitely feels better than the official Switch Pro controller either way. So do the 8bitdo.

I bought this controller after Mario Maker 2 came out for the Switch. I own a Wii U as well and loved Mario Maker on that. Now, I'm a huge fan of Nintendo's Pro controllers. The one for the Wii U was pretty solid, but the one for the Switch is a remarkably better controller in every way... BUT the d-pad. This became apparent to me as I tried and failed miserably to complete some initial MM2 "kaizo" levels. I realized it was because of the continuous dpad in the controller. If you press and hold the down direction, and then tilt to the left or right, you'll also trigger a left/right motion (that is, down-left or down-right). All the directional buttons are like this b/c the dpad is "continuous." Compare this to the dpad on the Joy-Con itself where each direction of the dpad is its own separate button. It is IMPOSSIBLE to trigger down-left or down-right simply by pressing the down button and tilting it in some way. The Wii U's Pro controller is much better in this regard. Unfortunately, so many newer console manufacturers are building their controllers with continuous dpads, making precise movements like those required of kaizo Mario Maker levels or high level fighting games (cough Street Fighter cough) much more difficult to perform.

Soooo, I looked elsewhere and decided to purchase this controller. Is the dpad perfect? Absolutely not. It's still a continuous dpad. However, it is a MUCH better design and has enabled me to return to the insanely difficult kaizo levels of Mario Maker 2. I thusly also use this controller when playing Hollow Knight given its tight platforming.

Outside from that, the rest of the controller is great. I owned an SNES forever ago (still have it) and I've always loved that controller. The DualShock controller follows a similar design, so any time I play a fighting game or tight platforming game on my Switch requiring the use of the dpad, I reach for this SN30 Pro+ controller. For games like Mario Kart or shooter style games, I prefer the Nintendo Pro controller, but this one still suffices just fine for those games as well. Now, admittedly I much prefer the Xbox (cough Elite cough) controller for 1st and 3rd person shooter games, notably due to the staggered thumbsticks. This controller does NOT have staggered thumbsticks, but given all my gaming time clocked on the PS3 and PS4, that's still fine by me.

The controller holds a charge for a LONG time and has a nice auto-off functionality. I feel like I rarely ever have to charge the thing, and when I do, it *might* take 2 hours...? It isn't long, that's for sure. The controller is also very lightweight which is great. I have not connected this to a computer, but should you choose to do so, 8Bitdo provides software to configure and tweak all sorts of things about the controller. At some point I'll load up Steam and try this out. Overall the shape/design and feel of the controller is great, whether you're using the triggers, the thumbsticks, the dpad, the actual buttons, you name it.

The ONLY negative I have about the controller is that you can't turn on your Switch remotely from it, though I understand why that isn't possible. I will say that it takes a sec to remember how to *initially* connect it to different consoles too (hold Y + Start or hold X + Start etc.)... but given I use it almost exclusively for the Switch, that isn't a problem for me. 5/5 recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars excelente control de calidad premium

5.0 out of 5 stars My new favourite controller - really high quality at a really good price.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 26, 2020

In my experience 8bitdo controllers have always been excellent, but this is definitely the best all-around controller that I’ve bought from them. I find it very comfortable to hold, though this will obviously vary depending on the person - for reference I have pretty large hands.

As usual with 8bitdo, the build quality is excellent - the controller feels sturdy and looks high-quality. The analogue sticks are tight, accurate and responsive, with no centre drift and smooth movement. The analogue L2 and R2 triggers are of a similar quality. The 8-way D-pad is up to the usual excellent standard and well-suited to retro play - I’ve given it a good few hours of use and haven’t had any issue with accidental diagonals. The face buttons are also well-made with good resistance and travel (it’s only a shame that this pad doesn’t come in the Famicom/European SNES colours). It’s harder to gauge the relative accuracy of the motion sensors, but they’ve worked fine for me in the Switch games I’ve tried them with (and really, it’s just impressive that motion control is included at all in a ~£30 controller). The rumble is your standard big-motor/small-motor set and doesn’t support the Switch’s HD Rumble, but for what it is it’s fine and strength-adjustable from within the configuration software.

The config software itself (downloadable separately) does basically everything you want it to. You can remap all your buttons, adjust deadzones and sensitivities of the analogue sticks and buttons, set up macros, and save profiles. I don’t really use it, but it does work.

The only real issue I’ve had with it is with the turbo function - it works, but on Switch the activation button for turbo is the same as the screenshot/video button, so if you want to activate or deactivate the turbo, you have to hold the button down and the Switch saves 30s of video. It’s not a huge problem but it is a bit inconvenient and those videos fill up the small Switch storage space quite fast. But, like, that’s the only negative thing I could think to say about the controller, and it’s pretty small potatoes.

This is genuinely my favourite controller that I’ve ever owned. I prefer it to the official Switch Pro controller and it works perfectly as a PC and Raspberry Pi controller. It’s more useful than the Xbox 360/Xbox One pads for D-pad heavy games, it’s a bit more comfortable than any of the DualShock line (for me, at least), and it’s built to a comparable or better level of quality to all the standard first-party pads, with much better customisation options. Can’t recommend it enough.

I have an iPhone, an android phone, MacBook running both macOS and Windows 10, a Nintendo Switch and it runs on everything flawlessly.

I love games but I'm in no means a pro gamer. As a casual gamer I just love the versatility of this controller. It is completely made up of plastic but not a cheap kind, everything feels fantastic. The D pad, thumb sticks and all the buttons are very tactile and responsive. left and right triggers on the top are pressure sensitive and the best part is, every button is customisable with 8Bitdo software. Just amazing. It has a rechargeable battery that charges with USB C and this can be removed and replaced with a standard two AA batteries. It also have rumble but its not as satisfying as HD rumble on Switch Joy-cons. Thumb sticks have a lot more travel than Joy-cons.

Having said that, do understand a controller is not for every game, for example you can't accurately aim in a shooting game like Call of Duty etc, you are better off using a mouse or touch controls. For everything else, 8Bitdo Sn30 Pro+ is excellent.

I bought it for 3400 Rs and its totally worth it for what I play.

    Have a great day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mejor batería que un mando de Xbox One
Reviewed in Spain on January 27, 2021
    Edition: Sn EditionVerified Purchase
    Pros:

    - Bluetooth inalámbrico, o cable USB quita-y-pon, a voluntad propia.
