- Reviewed in the United States on April 19, 2016Style: Output onlyVerified PurchaseThe Most Simple and Beneficial HDMI output I've owned. When I first learned about Blackmagic I was sold. My church uses a ton of solutions from Blackmagic and seeing what it did for the lower cost of some other solutions i was sold. The reliablity of blackmagic products is wonderful. Prior ro using this product I used Matrox products. I'm a Mac user now but once as a video beginer I was a windows user, primarly because its what I used for work. I used a Matrox system on that and it was ok. Then When I moved to Mac I got a more current Matrox MX2 mini, absolutly horrible. I paid $449.00 for that thing and it would constantly glitch out. When I bought that thing took Matrox 6 months to even have software for what I had then premiere pro CS5. I always kept up with the software too matching the OS I had and editing software. Never did it work like it was suppose to, maybe it was good for windows but a $449.00 paper weight when using on a Mac with Premiere pro CS5. Then one day that Matrox just quit working. So I was skeptical of the low price on the DeckLink Mini Monitor. It just works! I emailed the company told them the OS i used and that I was using CS6. They pointed me to the newest driver 10.6.2. This version works with OS 10.11 running Premiere Pro CS6. Although the software mentions CC 2014 and newer, it does work with CS6!!! So to my delight it does exactly what I need. Hands down 1000 times better than Matrox MX02 mini ever thought of! Its just an output only but that's all I need. I need it for previewing what my content will look like on a HDTV monitor. Because a TV has colors different than a computer monitor. You need to output to an actual TV when editing to get the color closer to perfect.

I am quite satisfied with this card.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 17, 2015Style: Output onlyVerified PurchaseI rate this product in the following format:
0 STAR for the CD driver included
0 STAR for the website
0 STAR on documentation
5 STAR for the hardware
--no comment on the tech support as I didn't need it and I was working on this around midnight!
Let me elaborate.
The other reviewer is correct. This is the worse organization from a tech company! BlackMagic put every single driver of their product on the CD. There's no documentation to tell you which driver is for which product!!
I went to BlackMagic website. Wow! Pretty website and it ends there. All I want is to look for the latest driver for this product and download it!!
Forget about it!! Can't find any crab on their website! You would think you go to SUPPORT > DRIVER/FIRMWARE > PRODUCT MODEL and voila! Nope!! Stuff that can be done less than a minute and I ended up wasting an hour just to look for the darn driver!!
Once got it installed....I think I got the right one!! Oh yeah...I did. Now, time to test the hardware via HDMI. Nada!! What BlackMagic should do is to create a sample app to test an output just to be certain that the card is working properly! Even generate a simple bartone and SMPTE screen is more than sufficient. I don't understand why a company that made a lot of cool toys doesn't have a slightest common sense how to create a simplest debugging procedure! Not to mention poor documentation!
Now, back to documentation. After I installed the software, there's a README.RTF. Wow! Finally, some doc! Open up the README file and it said, "TO DO". That's it!! WTF!!
So, did I get the hardware to work? I tested in Grass Valley 7.5, Premiere CS6 and CC 2015. Got sound but no video on CS6. The BDM never shows up in the hardware settings in CS6. Although, the CONTROL PANEL shows it got installed properly. CC 2015 works great after 6 hours fuzzing around with it!! Grass Valley works immediately; though, you need to set it up in the SETTINGS and tell it to output thru the card. At least, Grass Valley works on the first try! But not so lucky with Premiere!
Conclusion?
It seems like BlackMagic hired a voodoo priest to design their website and driver! They didn't test their product properly! There's no documentation! You don't know which software it supported and what version! So, if you got the technical skills and a lot of patient, the hardware does work only if you willing to explore and troubleshoot on you own! I was gonna dump some serious money into their higher end cameras buttttttt....may be I should look somewhere else.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 28, 2014Style: Output onlyVerified PurchaseI got confused by what this did. I searched for "Capture card", and the item I really needed (in hindsight) was a "Mini-Recorder" - that wasn't listed.
However, for what it does (output clean camera video and audio from your editing or broadcast switcher programs to a monitor) it does well (hence why I kept it at 4 stars). But, since there was some lack of clarity in the description as to what it does, I deducted a star. Sue me. I'm an idiot and didn't research well enough. But I want to make sure the next guy or gal doesn't make my same mistakes, since Blackmagic wasn't catering to "our kind".
If you don't know why this would be useful, let me explain:
Live event videographers: You are doing a multicam event and using Wirecast, Livestream or other switching program to add live graphics or switch between camera feeds, and you want to send your video out to a Projection system so that people onsite can see the same video that people at home are seeing. This card would allow you to connect your edited/switched video out to an HDMI projector, and you would have no issues with the windows taskbar or notifications causing issues.
Film makers: You are running your cameras into a capture system to encode video to ProRes or DNxHD or whatever codec-du-jour. You want to see the video that comes out of that capture to see if you got the shot. Well, this product wouldn't capture that video, but it would show you what you got.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great hardware, but override other audio hardware...
Style: Output onlyVerified PurchaseNice add-on card for Media Composer to allow FullHD preview on a PC. Only downside, which BlackMagic Design doesn't talk about, is that the audio output is limited to 2ch, and that the Blackmagic driver disable any other audio hardware when it's installed. Media Composer doesn't recognize my Mbox Pro when the Mini Monitor is installed. Not very useful.
other than this, great hardware.
