    Multiple Manufacturing Defects
Edit: April 30 2021, 2 years 7 months later now. I added another one 6 months ago from the other site for duel monitors when I built a 2700x, 32Gb ram. I love both of my monitors. I don't game. 1st. one still looks as good as the 2nd. One thing I found out is while the hub is usb 3.0. upstream. The downstream is 2.0. So it's really a 2.0 hub. Not a huge problem. I'm upgrading to five stars because I'm happier with long term use. Let me start by saying how happy I am with the picture quality of this monitor. No eye strain from pwm (pulse width modulation) of the backlighting like my previous monitor. Maybe Samsung uses DC to control it. The only adjustment I did is turn the brightness down to 50% and magic upscale to mode 1. I am completely happy with the picture to my eyes. I'm using DVI as the input and have not tested any of the other connections or usb hub. I was worried I would have to buy a new video card because of what other reviewers had said about using a stout video card. That was not the case at all for me. The computer hardware I use is a AMD 64 athlon x2, 3GB ram, running xp built by me in 2006. Geforce 9600gt from 2008. Experiencing no slow down. I don't game so can't speak for that. Where this monitor blew me away is in viewing pictures. It is so good I now carry my camera with me wherever I go. The detail to my eyes is incredible. Maybe the sheer size right in your face has a bit to do with it also. Now for the unacceptable manufacturing of my unit. Brand new in box. Four light scratches on the screen, one of which is 2 inches long. Can only see them when the monitor is off. Bezel is not flush with panel on the bottom, varying 1/16 to 1/8 inch gap in a wave/bulge pattern except 1 in. on each side. Small impact ding on the front of the base. You got to be kidding me. How can this possibly make it through QC. What a disservice they did to this monitor. Three stuck black pixels and a very small area that looks gray on a white background (I think this is still within Samsungs acceptable specs according to their web site) and can't tell in normal use. It would be very easy for the seller to blame the customer for the scratches and impact ding of these defects and hope I am not the one getting blamed. Now I have to deal with getting this fine monitor replaced without additional cost to me. Update Edit: The only option I had was to return with no exchange available on the return page. Thankfully it was hassle free. The day I was dropping off the monitor to the shipper a different seller had this monitor for a price approaching a cheaper brand, significantly less for a few hours. Yeah! Unfortunately I can only raise from two stars to three because even though the gap between the panel and bezel was a little better it is still noticeable especially above the control buttons. Samsung seems to be having a manufacturing process problem they might not know about unless they are just letting the units pass anyway. I'm hanging on to this one because the gap is usually only noticeable when the monitor if off and no defective pixels. I am happy with the panel and controls. The PIP mode is handy for my video surveillance system.

Five stars mainly for the same feature which attracted me to begin with, the 1.4 HDMI port (this seems to be a secret with other makes), there is only one, so need a solution for PC/TV connection and apparently neither device I use can handle 2K , right now. (Later Note: I can get 2K 1440p @60hz with HDMI connection direct from computer to monitor, even with lowly AMD A8 7400 GPU Radeon R5, whatever; wow, I wish I could keep it but I want that port for my DVR. (But yes, the movement is sluggish in certain applications;, perhaps it is the 88.8 kHz.) (Achieved with USB 3.0 to DP converter)
The ordeal was the Samsung comes set to auto port and on DVI; it kept floating an icon "check DVI", I learned to switch to "manual"and change display to HDMI. What a relief to see the "information" at bottom of main menu go to 1080P (from the DVI's 720x480P with a HDMI to DVI cable). Also a good feature for the screen to tell you what it's resolution is.
Also, the picture, for some reason being the best 1080P I have ever seen, It may work together with the Magnavox HD DVR, used as a tuner. (using high speed HDMI cable) I also set the "upscaling" feature to "mode 2"'; I see an edging effect to it,
Another worry for me was losing the color I really loved on my 27" IPS AOC; (The AOC had very dark blacks but also a generally dark screen perhaps being a cheaper model.) The colors themselves are mostly correct and the wide range of IPS, but washed out, without that great saturation, I am still working with "custom" settings; I don't like any of the color preset modes. IN ERR{The "dynamic contrast" setting might be better but it gave me a definite bad first impression. (Also, with each channel change, you see it reset.) It takes over all picture settings (even color???). } It definitely needs the Dynamic Contrast. I have just discovered I can keep custom color settings and I do not notice a reset with each channel change; I do not know what I am doing differently. (The reason for this error is that it depends on weather you are in the AV or PC setting for your particular input display, to the best of my knowledge. PC setting seems to blank out all other picture settings.)
The 50/50/50 it arrives with is fairly perfect; You would have to be trying to mess up this color.
I tried "Game Mode" for awhile and liked those saturated colors but too unreal in some settings.
*This VA panel has great blacks; I thought that was a feature of IPS panels, (Some sources say not.) because the AOC also had great blacks, but also to the extent of bad visibility in dark scenes requiring its "DCB-Auto Detect" with some improvement.. This VA panel has very good visibility in dark scenes, (less in gamma 3). What is important about blacks in my experience is the way it adds highlights to objects and makes the colors stand out, but it will not take over all dark colors; shades of gray are there.

I've discovered that Gamma 3 is used in "Dynamic Contrast" (The menu shows the settings in playback, sometimes???) and that is what improves the saturated color; it was the 100% bright and "cool" color mode in Dynamic Contrast that I did not like, so I only used the gamma 3 in my custom settings, with 100% contrast, much lower bright and set colors at varying levels all around 50%.
I believe I've captured my old IPS. (Even though it has 8 bit color, combined with some process like dithering; some say 10 bit is not noticeable ). It claims 1B(billion) in the specs. The colors on this monitors really are great. (After comparing same picture on side by side screens, I see the VA panel will never totally achieve that IPS deep color look.)
Response time is still 5 MS like AOC but I believe there is a setting for speed which I am not familiar with and probably don't need.
The stand is nice and solid; Pivoting and tilt back is good for inserting cables; forward at about 5 degrees and pivoting at about 45 degrees is good for viewing.
Also, I see volume control for audio and it has in and out holes; but the out gives a hum, unless I'm doing something wrong. (Even pass through should be outputting the audio from my HDMI.) LATER NOTE: Okay, I do now have audio from 3.5mm jack, but it was very difficult to push in.

Is the SAMSUNG SD850 the best WQHD Monitor Today?

This note is intended to help anyone who is seeking the ultimate computer viewing experience. W = Wide format QHD = Quad High Definition = 2560x1440 pixels.

I've got a HP Spectre X360 touchscreen laptop that sports a 13.3" 2560x1440 resolution monitor. That is AMAZING resolution. In fact the ratio of pixels to physical viewing size is so high that Windows 10 automatically increases the size of user interface elements (text, buttons, windows etc) by 200% so that they can viewed without requiring a magnifying glass. The end result is that everything looks "normal" even though this is very high (retina) resolution.

However, this is just the beginning. Where the graphics display driver in this laptop really shines is when driving a SECOND, EXTERNAL monitor which is ALSO 2560x1440.

I've purchased the SAMSUNG SD850 which is a native 2560x1440 32" monitor! This monitor is so large that the 2560x1440 display can be shown at full 100% (no artificial increase in UI elements). This means you have an incredible amount of real estate and because the resolution is so high you can sit at a normal desktop distance from this huge monitor and comfortably view the entire display. Word or PDF documents can be viewed 3 full pages at a time.

Because the display is so large, even very small type and graphic details can be easily viewed without straining.

I've set things up so that the 32" SAMSUNG is my primary display with the 2560x1440 display of my laptop providing an ADDITIONAL work surface. For those who have used multiple monitors you know how valuable this can be in so many scenarios: coding on one, seeing the results on another, multiple documents and websites spread across both monitors etc. Many applications have built-in support for multiple monitors and Windows 10 is smart enough to automatically open new links across monitors.

The SAMSUNG SD850 has a built-in 4 port USB 3.0 hub, along with audio connections, so this monitor can double as a docking station for your laptop. Connections to a full sized keyboard, printer, external hard drives, audio speakers etc. can all be left permanently connected at your desktop. When you bring your laptop back in from a sales trip, just plug in one USB 3.0 connection and one display port connection and you're good to go!

Neck strain is a thing of the past. Why? The monitor is so large that you never look down into it! You are looking either straight ahead or looking up. So buying this monitor could be your solution for simultaneously eliminating both neck and eye strain. The result is a healthier more productive YOU.

The stand is the most professional of any display I've used. The screen can be fully tilted to any angle and easily rotated for a vertical display, which might come in handy for certain layout and graphic applications.

The monitor is large enough that it could also serve as a presentation display on a conference table seating 12 people or so. Even those at the far end of the table would be able to easily watch a video or Power Point displayed on this monitor. In fact the monitor comes with a wall mount for just this purpose enabling you to mount it at one end of a small conference room.

After work hours this display can serve as a high resolution home theater. There are HDMI / Display Port / DVI connections. In fact you can simultaneously have multiple input connections and display both using the Picture in a Picture capability (watch the news while working). The monitor comes complete with HDMI, Display Port (including a mini Display Port adaptor for your laptop) and DVI cables. So you don't have to buy anything extra.

      Not one single dead pixel.

      Highly recommended for ALL applications.

Using my monitor through HDMI from a late-2013 Macbook Pro. Had to update OSX Sierra to 10.12.6 to be able to take advantage of native resolution rates (highest was 1080p prior) but after that the monitor just grabbed 2560 x 1440 and ran with it like ringing a bell.

Absolutely love the multi-adjustable mount on the stand to turn, tilt and swivel, raise and lower the screen, works very well.

Really nice 1440p office monitor at a great price, I'm very happy with my purchase.

      Thanks Samsung and Amazon!
