- Reviewed in the United States on April 24, 2019I was afraid to buy this at first after reading some of the reviews on here. I realized however, that most of the reviews are not reviewing the hardware, rather the software. So, I took note of the complaints and I didn't use the software, so I can't attest to how good or bad it might be.
I can't help other people's stupidity, but what I can say is I didn't buy the software, and couldn't care less what it came with. What I used to capture the video was OBS Studio, It's completely free. Yes it's software that's usually used to stream video games, but it works great for capturing video of all kinds.
To understand the hardware, Your computer registers it the same way it would a Webcam, with audio input. So, if you're not getting any sound check under your Mic settings. If you're having issues with color like some of the complaints, I'd guess you might want to check the input and make sure everything is plugged in right, and check the software to make sure it's set right.
With this hardware, I can now preserve the old deteriorating VHS tapes of my family into a more permanent digital format. This is worth a whole lot more to me than the cost I paid. For that, I'm very grateful to the manufacturer.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 29, 2021I had great expectations for this product, but it fails miserably. The video quality is dreadful, and it can't sync the signal. I tested with two VCRs, both giving perfect picture on a TV, and numerous cabling options, and the fault clearly lies in the device. This is using either the software provided or OBS. OBS works much better, but both applications could only work with the encoded video from the device which, as mentioned, was terrible. Also, the software CD included only worked on one out of 5 good computers, and then only long enough to copy the software to a USB stick to be able to complete the installation. This has been a very disappointing experience and a significant waste of time troubleshooting to no avail. Would be great value for money if it actually worked. I'm a computer tech and very familiar with this technology. This product shouldn't be sold if it can't meet the basic fundamentals, i.e., to digitize the same image as being output from the VCR.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 3, 2019The USB converter stick does actually work but the software included does not. I'm using Windows 10, you'll need the software disk included to at a minimum provide the USB drivers for the stick. The included software would install and run but did nothing. However, the built in Windows 10 Camera app would recognize the stick and record audio and video just fine from my old camcorder. The quality is as expected from an old camcorder. You might get lucky and have the original software work but, the Windows 10 Camera app works fine for me.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 9, 2019This works just as good as the expensive ones they sell. I know people had issues with there's saying the audio was off here is a top don't use anything on your laptop while using this program you won't have that issue and if you see a black screen restart your laptop. If you see it not full screen and just in one corner it won't be like that once it it's saved to your desktop. This program saved me so much money thank you if you also hear audio in one ear it could be because your computer might need to be restarted or your cable has a short twist them around to get it adjusted if it's the product itself message customer service they will help or and replace your item for you.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 21, 2021Thoroughly impressed. Bought this at 8 bucks not expecting a whole lot, especially considering I wanted to use this to stream NES gameplay. Windows 10 instantly recognized it as an audio device, and after a little tinkering with OBS, had it up and running. Not the smoothest way to do things, but as I said, 8 dollars was fair enough to at least make the attempt which seems moderately successful. I very well may be having some pc issues, so give this little guy a shot if looking for a cheap option.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 25, 2021The media could not be loaded.
For OBS, I used the video settings from timfordphoto site "Digitizing VHS Tapes Using OBS". I used “Base (Canvas) Resolution” of 720×480 and “Output (Scaled) Resolution” of 720x480). I did not purchase the optional audio capture device that was mentioned on timfordphoto site.
I ended up purchasing the DIGITNOW USB 2.0 Video Capture Card Converter ASIN: B07XP159GX which produced good quality videos. See my video for a comparison of the two video capture devices.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works as Intended
The software is very simple and easy to use, and the product worked as intended. The only problem you may encounter is a very distorted image and audio when connecting to your computer, but when connected to a T.V. it works fine. I had this issue and it turn out I just needed it to go through a Receiver first to clean up the image and audio before the computer receives it in good quality.

1.0 out of 5 stars High likihood of defective product (buy the name brand one instead)
Let me first say that the seller is awesome and really stands behind their product. They went above and beyond to try to make things right which is greatly appreciated and they are to be commended. Unfortunately, I can't recommend the product as it seems there are a high percentage that are defective.
First, let me say that I know how to use the product correctly and I know what the captured video should look like. I've been capturing analogue video digitally for more than 20 years. When I first tried this device, it worked quite well for one video that was about 1hr 45min long. Part way through the capture, the video went wavy and discoloured for a few minutes but I thought it might be just the tape itself and the issue went away. However, after that first capture, the device refused to work properly ever again, even on that first tape. I could see through the viewfinder that the video from the tape was fine but the preview window on the computer software and the recorded video where all wavy and jittery and flickered back and forth from black and white to distorted colours and back. I tried using several different RCA cables, multiple different USB ports, two different capture programs (Quicktime and OBS) and even 3 different computers (2 PC's and a MacBook Pro) and there was no change in the captured video. I could get nice clear video just running the RCA cables into my TV but not when running into any computer using the device through USB. I ordered a replacement and the new one had the same result right from the first attempt at a capture. Neither item was usable. On the plus side, I never had any issues capturing the audio though. Audio capture was great all through the entire process. Unfortunately, I need video to go along with that audio. I've now ordered a different one from a different seller that is a name brand one at about double the price. Hopefully that one works.
Update: The name brand UCEC one I ordered from a different seller arrived last week and that one works great. It even came in actual retail packaging, not just an OEM foil envelope. I've been using it almost non-stop to capture video since it arrived. One note for Mac users though, the new UCEC one works perfectly on my PC laptop but the audio kept cutting out when I tried it on my MacBook pro. The defective items above never had any audio issues on either my PC or Mac so I'm not sure if this item is perhaps not fully compatible with Mac computers or if there's some other issue. It's not a big deal to me though because I prefer to do my capturing on my PC anyway.

4.0 out of 5 stars It does what its suppose to do
The final quality is not Superb, it's acceptable it does work with MAC you need to go to the Webpage that comes with the package and it will work in a breeze. Now it will also work with QuickTime but you will need to play a little with it. 4 star just because the quality is not HD .

3.0 out of 5 stars Adequate hardware. Weird software.
Captures frames as advertised. Some frames appear scrambled or glitched at highest quality settings as if it can’t keep up. Probably not my 10th gen core i5’s fault. Supplied software codecs are weird - displays at 1 FPS while capturing, though finished file is 30fps. Editor wouldn’t play back and when I installed updated codecs, no display during capture. Finished files still good. Use this as a capture device with other software than what’s supplied. I recommend STOIK.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked on 25 year old dv camera.
It worked on a DV camera output using s-video lead plus sound lead with the USB into the Mac-book. I had to get the free updated version of the software from the internet. I had a few tries to get the Mac software, but there was no problem with windows. Software was easy to use and results were good.
