Significant upgrade from GTX 1060

- Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2019I bought this GPU to go with my AMD Ryzen 2700x (yeah yeah, Intel > AMD for gaming, whatever). I originally wanted a 1080Ti but the prices for those skyrocketed to $1k+ as soon as the GTX series was released. For $699, I thought this was an amazing upgrade.
A few issues to note:
- it is a BIG dual-slot card. Most are nowadays, but this one was enormous compared to my old GTX 1060. Thankfully the Ventus version was small enough for my Corsair 280x.
- Can be heard when under load. I wouldn't say loud, but then again my previous computer was entirely air-cooled and full of fans. This was easily quieter in comparison (I use a CPU water-cooler now).
- At 1440p & max settings on GTA V, there is a bit of lighting when there are a lot of shadows and reflections. Could be another typical GTA PC port issue, or could be 2700x, or the card, or some combination of the above.
- While to me the cost is good for the performance, $699 is still $699.
- Not much raytracing support yet. Counter: could change over the next few years; some say it's a gimmick, others say it's the future.
- Kind of a waste of money if you just plan on running everything at 1080p as I believe the 2060 and 2070 can achieve 1080p with high frame rates easily.
- Not very flashy if that is your thing
Some great things to note:
+ Significant increase in performance compared to the GTX 1060. Though this is expected, I didn't expect this much of an improvement.
+ Only reached 65C while running GTA V max settings, 60fps, 1440p. I also have two fans blowing directly on the card though, but keep in mind that the 280x, though listed as an mATX case, is practically made for a mini-ITX motherboard (and sized as such).
+ GREAT size for small cases. I believe it's something like 268mm? That's about 10.5 inches. Pretty compact for a heavy/large GPU.
+ Just the essentials; no RGB lighting or glowing brand name on the side, if that is your thing
I imagine serious gamers will prefer the 1080 Ti or the 2080 Ti, but this is more than enough for my needs, and I'm sure the GPU will last me for years on end.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 28, 2019This card feels solid and ran like a champ the moment I swapped it with my GTX 980. I got this card specifically for the overclocking potential. I use MSI afterburner to overclock and got my cores to run at 2055 MHz and memory 7500 MHz stable (I think I could overclock my memory even more). I don't think I won the silicone lottery but I don't think I lost it either. Temperature wise, The card runs a little warm at 58 C under max load (at 80% fan speed). The thing is blistering fast. At 2k, 144hz Ultra - PUBG - 80 to 130 fps, CS:GO - 200-300 fps and runs BF5 smooth (didn't get the frame rate on that one).
My only complaint would be the visual appeal of this card. The green doesn't really match anything I have going in my case and the thing doesn't even have a single LED. My GTX 980 at least had the EVGA lit up via LED and that card came out in 2014. I didn't get this card for LEDs so that's why I'm not taking a star away, but that something you might want to be aware of.
Overall, a great card. If your looking for a card that can decently overclock and run under 60 C at max load, this is the card for you. Its not flashy, its not that pretty, but it does what it says it does and gives you great performance if you willing to pay the price.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 7, 2019I bought this for my new gaming rig with the intent to play VR in Elite: Dangerous, but the VR is on hold while I wait for Oculus to release their Rift S. In the meantime, 1440p gaming on this thing is incredible. I could go on and on about how I subjectively feel about its performance, but really you should just look at benchmarks for the 2080 and that'll give you a good idea of how it runs. If you have good airflow in your case this seems to be a decently cool running card. I've never seen it go above 63 degrees C under full gaming load or any benchmark that I've thrown at it, including FurMark, and this is after adding an additional 120 MHz core boost + 800 MHz memory clock on top of the factory spec, bringing me to an average of around 2040 MHz core clock during the most demanding parts of gaming sessions. MSI Afterburner makes it extremely easy to overclock these cards, and there's essentially no risk of damaging them especially now with the extra-tight voltage limits that Nvidia has placed on the Turing GPUs.
This thing feels massive and heavy, which is surprising given that it's a two-slot, two-fan design. Given how well this performs in cooling and how big it already is I don't see much reason to go with a three-fan or three-slot design. However there doesn't seem to be significant droop once this thing is screwed in properly, although my motherboard ostensibly has stronger PCI slots to account for that. The backplate seems to be pretty sturdy though.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 7, 2019I bought this refreshed. At $580 it is definitely a respectable choice if you're looking for 60fps 4K gaming or high refresh rate 1440p. Still outperforms a 2070 Super, and trades blows with the 2080 Super when OC'ed. Also has enough grunt to actually use RTX features for the few games that offer them.
The card's running temps seem fine. Usually hovering around 70c. Comparable to the triple fan gigabyte 2080 I have in my other system. No complaints about the MSI cooler.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 21, 2019Was looking for a 1080ti but these cards had just released and the price was actually lower than the cheapest 1080ti.
The card I got is a monster, and as driver improvements, more RTX/DLSS support, better dx12 implementation becomes available I expect this card to surpass the 1080ti margins noticeably.
Maybe I got lucky but my particular card manages a massive core clock speed of 2175mhz. I think these MSI cards have a high quality of QA while allowing for OC headroom if you enjoy pushing your cards to the limit.
Still really expensive, but i regret nothing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ventus blows away the others.
Purchased the msi rtx 2080 ventus about half a year ago. Still working great and strong. After tweaking it with the msi oc program I'm benchmarking in the 99th percentile of people who benchmark the rtx 2080 series scored 138% making it a gaming ufo. Would recommend out of all the rtx 2080 to get the ventus. Even the Duke doesn't score as high on benchmark. 5 star on the sellers part. 4 star on the manufacturer only because of the price. But is well worth the buy if you got the cash and want something better than a GTX 1080 ti.
