Finally decided to get this, I don't understand why phone are being made this way, I have Bluetooth headphones but the 3.5 is reliable and doesn't require charging like Bluetooth devices. I have the pixel xl2. This charges rapidily and I can listen to music at the same time. But minus one star because I wasn't able to use the mic from my phone when I'm using this adapter unfortunately. Feels like a well built product as well and not so flimsy.
Update: I originally rated this item 5 stars, and my original review is below. I had to update my review because after less than 2 months of use and using it less than 10 times it no longer works. When charging, the 3.5 mm audio port doesn't work. Also, my phone charges significantly slower while using this adapter now.

This dongle failed just over a month of use and 2 weeks past return date with Amazon. The dongle lived an easy life next to my bed and was plugged into my phone at night to allow me to use headphones and charge at the same time. When it worked, it worked well. It did pass power through to quick charge my Pixel 3 - and it did pass decent audio quality. But living an easy life it died just over a month.
Amazon did agree to accept a return as a one-time exception.
Used this doohickey for a few days now with my new Huawei P20 Pro. First one of this type I have ever purchased. This model seems nicely made. The silver metal is very attractive and feels sleek and modern. The connections are solid and the cables seem like they'll hold up under standard usage. The sound is clean, the charger works as expected. The only hiccup, and this may be something that all adapters require, is that I leave the car cables (usb charger from my lighter and 3.5mm connecter to my aux audio input) plugged in and simply plug the USB-C connecter into the P20 Pro, but the audio doesn't work unless I remove the 3.5mm cable from the dongle and reinsert it, necessitating that I turn off the radio to avoid popping my speakers. Then it works fine. Not a show stopper but an annoyance. If anyone knows if this is typical let me know. That's the only reason I dinged it a star. However, I would probably buy again.
Does exactly what it says it will do. I have had it for several weeks now and haven't had any problems. I just keep it on my desk at work so I can't speak much to the durability perse, but it seems solidly built. The connection into the phone feels nice and sturdy, no wiggling like on some cheap chargers I've had in the past. I'm not an audiophile by any means, but I listen to a lot of music in many genres, as well as a lot of podcasts, and haven't noticed any problems.
One thing to note, it's not bulky in general terms, but the silver casing is about 1.5 by 1.125 inches and about a quarter-inch thick. The cord, including the part that you insert into the phone, is 3.125 inches long. (These are measurements I just took with a ruler, I say "about" to mean there's like a sixteenth of an inch more or less.)
I highly recommend this to anyone looking to live a little simpler in a post-headphone-jack world. We miss you, headphone jacks!
For reference, I have a Google Pixel 2.
Update: The adapter suddenly started going out this week. It will stop working intermittently, mainly when I move enough to disturb its position on my desk. If I can keep it completely still, it works with no interruptions, once I get it to start working. Sometimes I have to fiddle with it (taking it out and putting it back in) and it only works when I plug it in a certain way. I've only traveled with it once (2.5 months ago) and otherwise it lives in my desk drawer at work when I'm not using it. I'm disappointed that it's starting to go out when it's been so gently used. I have had chargers go out similarly quickly so I'm not surprised, but still disappointed. I don't like to buy products that I will continue to have to replace (creates too much waste) so I don't think I'll be buying again.
This works for my Pixel 3. Charges at full speed, audio sounds great.
Note that you can use either both together, only the charger, or only the audio if you want. All of those work, I checked.
Also, just to note: I had something happen where I was using the headphones and plugged in the power and the audio switched from the headphones to the phone (I expect this is a phone software issue, not an issue with this device). Anyway, when I unplugged the dongle and plugged it back in, the audio went back to the headphones. I think little things like this might be why some people are claiming that you can use the headphone jack without supplied power. But you can. If something weird like that happens, just unplug the dongle and plug it back in and it seems to work fine.
Also, the quality seems good. It has a quality durable aluminum casing.
This worked great for a few months, but now the cable seems to not want to stay in my Pixel 2. The smallest bump and it comes unhooked and takes at least 5 minutes to get working again. It has become such an issue I don't even try using it anymore. Err... I wish it still worked, but sadly it does not!
This product was used for connecting my cars Pioneer head-unit to my LG G6 & worked well initially. Only used in the car & it developed a short to where the right channel would go in & out. Also didn't work for phone calls as the other party couldn't hear me speaking.
